5/18/06: A team of civil engineering students from the University of Kansas took first place in a competition at the 2006 American Society of Civil Engineers's regional conference April 27-29 in Columbia, Mo. The seven students received first place in the Geotech Competition at the Mid-Continent Regional meeting by defeating teams from the University of Missouri, the University of Oklahoma and Kansas State University. The KU team was led by Robert Parsons, associate professor of civil, environmental and architectural engineering. This was the second year for this student contest and the first year KU students had taken part. Learn more.

4/24/06: Architectural engineering senior Lauren Ronsse was recently awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. This award is made to outstanding students who demonstrate the potential to become knowledge experts and who can contribute significantly to research, teaching, and innovations in science and engineering. This fellowship provides graduate school and research funding for three years and can be used over a five-year period.

4/24/06: Architectural engineering senior Tyler Waldorf was awarded the Caryl K. Smith Student Leader Award. This Chancellor's Award was established in 1993 by the Panhellenic Association in honor of former Dean of Students Caryl K. Smith. It is presented to a graduating senior fraternity or sorority member with high academic achievement who demonstrates involvement and commitment to his/her chapter, the national organization, the university and the Lawrence community.

4/15/06: The new transportation faculty member has been selected.

4/3/06: Associate Professor Mario A. Medina is heading the KU portion of the Kansas 2007 Solar Decathlon entry. The competition is sponsored by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy. The state of Kansas team, one of 20 selected nationwide for this third Solar Decathlon, is a joint effort of KU and Kansas State University. The Kansas Energy Office, part of the Kansas Corporation Commission, is providing additional support. Many students from both institutions will participate in the competition, which concludes in fall 2007 with judging on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. 1/25/06: Searches are under way for two more full-time tenure-track faculty positions; one is in transportation, and the other is in environmental.

1/20/06: Associate Professor Brian Rock's peer-reviewed book, requested and copyrighted by ASHRAE, "Ventilation for Environmental Tobacco Smoke," has been published (Elsevier).

8/1/05: All construction management courses (CMGT prefix) have been moved from the Edwards Campus to the Lawrence Campus beginning Fall 2005.
