Welcome to the University of Kansas CEAE Department
On behalf of our faculty, staff and students, I welcome you to the website for the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) at the University of Kansas. I have recently begun as Chair of CEAE taking over for Dr. Tom Mulinazzi who ably led the department for the last five years. I look forward to working with all of you in these exciting times in which engineers are in greater demand than ever in our society. The Department has a great faculty, staff and students and is very strong. We also have extremely accomplished alumni who help the Department through their support and guidance.
Our Department offers ABET-accredited B.S. degrees in both Civil Engineering (CE) and Architectural Engineering (ARCE). Our department has a long history dating to our first Civil Engineering (CE) alumni, Murray Harris, who received the first engineering degree at KU (and in Kansas) in 1873. Our Architectural Engineering (ARCE) program also has long roots, and was initiated almost 100 years ago in 1913.
Engineers are in great and increasing demand to help society meets its needs in designing, building and operating our nation’s infrastructure and buildings. Our department is helping meet that demand with our outstanding, street-ready engineering graduates.
Exciting things are happening in the Department. Our students are involved in a wide range of activities within the department in addition to their classes including design teams, student leadership, Engineers-Without-Borders, and undergraduate research in faculty research laboratories. The CEAE department also offers a variety of graduate degrees including eight different masters degrees and four doctoral degrees (see http://ceae.engr.ku.edu/graduate/).
Our CEAE faculty are active nationally and internationally. They teach and conduct research in many areas including: architectural, construction, environmental, geotechnical, structures, transportation, and water resources engineering.
I invite you to check us out, and see why so many folks have become dedicated and successful Jayhawk CEAE alumni. The CEAE Department is a great place to be, and a great place to be from! Details of our department (including research, course offerings, student organizations, and facilities) can be found at our website http://ceae.engr.ku.edu.
Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!
