Exceptionally well-qualified baccalaureate degree holders (3.75 gpa or above) may be directly accepted into a civil engineering doctoral program and sidestep master's degree requirements for the doctorate.

Doctoral students may qualify for the highly competitive and prestigious Self Graduate Fellowship at the University of Kansas. The Self Fellowship is a four-year award that provides a $23,000 annual stipend, plus tuition and fees and a professional development program. Self Fellows are chosen for their career aspirations, foresight, accomplishments, capacity to establish and achieve goals, leadership drive, and work habits.
